HOLISTIC OUTPATIENT COUNSELING

Are you feeling lost in your own life? Have you been feeling stressed, worried, anxious, or depressed? Are you in the midst of life challenges and feel unequipped to cope? We would love the opportunity to meet with you and help you recognize your strengths and cultivate inner peace. Let's start the journey together on the path to wellness and a healthier, whole, version of you!

Learn more about Shanna's approach to counseling and connect with her on Psychology Today!

Holistic Outpatient Counseling takes place in our cozy, non-traditional office here at the farm.  We empathetically take into consideration that every client is unique in mind, body, spirit, and their social connections.  It is with the utmost patience and care that we seek to explore and understand each of these areas of an individual's life in order to help them gain a better understanding of their strengths, areas of "stuckness", and identify ways to utilize strengths and facilitate growth in areas where needed in order to achieve a healthier, whole, version of you!  We are culturally sensitive and embrace, "come as you are, and we will meet you there."  You do not have to walk this journey alone.

Feel free to bring your emotional support or mental health service animal to your office appointments!*
*(ESA or MHSA documentation required in addition to animal being up-to-date on all vaccinations and having an appropriate temperament for our therapeutic environment.  Please confirm with your counselor prior to your appointment if you plan to bring your ESA or MHSA as we will at times incorporate canine-assisted counseling with our own therapy dog(s) and want to ensure the health and safety of all!)

ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY

According to Psychology Today, "Animal-assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals, such as horses, dogs, cats, pigs, and birds, into the treatment plan. It is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional therapy."

At this time we incorporate our therapy dog(s) in training into our treatment, as well as horses during our equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions.

Our therapy dog(s) in training are currently working towards their certification through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs!

EQUINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is considered outpatient therapy which consists of an initial 60 minute assessment to gather your health and social history, and follow up sessions are also 60 minutes long and typically scheduled either once per week or every other week based on your scheduling and treatment needs, and will reduce in frequency as progress is made.  Upon making contact to schedule, you will receive initial intake paperwork to complete prior to your first appointment.

What Should I Expect?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions are co-facilitated by a licensed mental health professional, Shanna L. Aughenbaugh, MA, NCC, LPC, CCTP, and a horse professional, Samantha Boeser (made possible by collaboration with Boeser Equine).  Both Shanna and Samantha have been trained and certified by the O.K. Corral Series in authentic Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning.  You should expect to interact with one or more horses during your sessions which are conducted in a manner that promotes optimal safety and therapeutic benefit for both humans and horses.  For this reason, please expect to pay your insurance co-pay as well as an additional service charge for the presence of the horse professional and use of the horses and facility.

Currently Accepted Insurance Plans:*
Highmark
UPMC
Optum/United Behavioral Health

*Not seeing your plan here?  Check with your insurer to inquire about your out of network benefits!

Sessions are billed as any other outpatient psychotherapy session.  Please contact us to inquire about our current self-pay rates.
